"ATTENTION DUELISTS!"

Play Monsters, Spells, and Traps cards to gain the advantage. Players use the cards they’ve collected to construct Decks to face off against opponents in a game of strategy, luck, and skill.

Card Types

There are multiple types of cards in Yu-Gi-Oh! This can be split into the card types found in the main deck and the card types found in the extra deck.

The main deck can consist of normal monsters, effect monsters, pendulum monsters, ritual monsters, spell cards (6 types) and trap cards (3 types).

The extra deck can consist of fusion monsters, synchro monsters, XYZ monsters and link monsters.

How to summon monster cards

Monster cards in Yu-Gi-Oh! are summoned based on their level: Levels 1–4 can be summoned normally, Levels 5–6 require one tribute, and Levels 7 or higher need two tributes unless stated otherwise. However, modern gameplay often bypasses tributing through monster effects, spells, or traps that allow easier summoning.

Some monsters from the Extra Deck, like Fusion Monsters, need specific materials listed on the card—usually from the hand or field—along with a Fusion or Polymerisation card to summon them.

How to Play

The Objective

The goal of Yu-Gi-Oh! is to reduce your opponent's life points from 8000 to zero or by other alternative win conditions, such as deck out (no more cards in the deck to draw).

Building Your Deck

A Yu-Gi-Oh! deck is made up of 40 - 60 cards in the main deck, 15 cards in the extra deck and 15 cards in the side deck.

The 15 cards in the side deck can be swapped out with cards in the main and extra deck between games in a round, but reverts back to the starting card list at the start of a new round.
